- What's new in v1.0 (final release)

- Added an introduction. See "How to use the introduction" below
  for more info on it.
- v1.0 is fully compatible with XvTOFQI
- Many mission have been changed, here is the rundown:
  - For all missions:
    - Transport Rakshasa was upgraded to Escort Transport. He will at
least put up a fight if attacked.
    - Players can now choose between chaff and flare on most missions
  - CARTAG02.TIE: The Dimoks
    - Removed beam weapons from ties (beam weapons only appear in
      Miss 8)
    - Removed concussion missiles on the T/W
    - Changed torpedoes to missiles on Y/W (easier for them to hit the
      transports)
    - Replaced Tugs with standard transport (they are faster)
transports will not pick up containers (it looked too weird when
      they entered the VSD)
    - ESC Roar will now abort mission when transports are home
    - ESC Roar will now return fire
    - TIE groups now have 3 waves instead of 6
    - Ripoblus fighters have less waves
    - Changed position/heading of a couple of ships.
    - Added transport Rakshasa as reinforcements
    - Other small changes to improve overall balance
  - Other missions went trough minor changes that are not documented
    here

-

After "Aftermath at Endor", my first project, I wanted to give
myself a little break by making 1-sided missions. So I came up with
a cooperative campaign that I named "Escort the Cartagar". Like my
first set of missions, this one is set after the defeat of the
Empire near Endor (at the hands of evil Rebel terrorists). Despites
their constant efforts and good will, the remaining Admirals have a
lot of problems keeping the remnants of the Empire from falling into
chaos and anarchy.

You and your comrades serve under Admiral Deskan, an Admiral loyal
to the Emperor and his vision of the Empire. You are currently
stationed on board the VSD Cartagar, in a remote sector near Bothan
space. The news of the Emperor's death has just reached your ears,
and your Admiral is now answering a summon by the remaining Imperial
Admirals to rendez-vous at the Imperial capital of Coruscant, still
under Imperial control.

You are the elite squadron of the Cartagar, flying in Imperial
Gunboats. Your fleet is comprised of VSD Cartagar, DREAD Sobibor
and STRKC Baltori. Your job is to protect and defend those ships
in their long journey to Coruscant.

- Installation Instruction

Step 1: You should have extracted the archive directly into your
XwingTie directory using the -d option (or subdirectory
option in Winzip). If you have not done so please do so
now. By unzipping the file in that way all files will
be placed in their appropriate folder.

      - IF YOU HAVE XVTOFQI (the quick way) -

Step 2: If you have XvTOFQI, drag this text file (cartagar.txt) onto
        your XvTOFQI shortcut

      - OR IF YOU DON'T (the slow painful way) -

Step 2: Add the following to the "mission.lst" and "imperial.lst"
        files in the "train" folder

NOTE: Use the "train" folder and not the "combat" folder otherwise
mission numbers will interfere with "Aftermath at Endor".

zone.simplenet.com Please keep these numbers to facilitate internet,
network and modem play using these custom missions. Also if you make new
missions register them with the OFP!

You should be right about done. If you have problems installing the
missions, try again. Since this is free I won't give much (any)
support for it, but comments are appreciated.

- How to use the Introduction

The file "Cartagar.exe" may be used to launch your session of X-Wing vs. Tie
Fighter instead of "XwingTie.exe". In order to view the intro you need your
X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter CD in the drive (otherwise you won't hear any music),
and the "Cartagar.exe" file must be in your XwingTie folder (otherwise the
game will not launch after the intro). This intro was made with Watcom C++
for Windows and DirectX2. It requires DirectX2 or above drivers to work.
Since X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter requires DirectX3 there shouldn't be any
problem.

I make no guarantee, expressed or implied, that this intro will work or that
it will not create any permanent or temporary damages to your system. This
is my very first attempt at windows programming so it may not be compatible
with every system out there. If you want to submit bug reports you can
contact me at the address above.

- About mission placement

I have decided to put these missions in the TRAINING portion of the game.
I believe combat slots should be reserved for missions where the player
can be either Rebel or Imperial. That was the whole idea I believe behind
"Combat Engagements". It is my belief that co-operative missions should be
placed into the "Multi-player training" category, as are built-in missions.

But then again, you're making these missions for free so you can put them
anywhere you want :-)

To all Star Wars officianados:
I have made no research to make these missions, so it is possible
that the missions in this battle do not fit at all with the "after
ROTJ" storyline. My apologies. When I receive my copy of "Heir to
the Empire" I'll probably make less of these mistakes :-)

Where to get more missions:

Try the Outbound Flight File zone : zone.simplenet.com. This is the place
all my new missions will be uploaded first and is a very good source of XvT
missions! Check it out!

Original mission ideas are (C) 1997 Christian Boutin.

Starwars and XvT are (C) 1997 LEC and Lucasfilm Limited

This is an unofficial and third party product for XvT which is not
supported nor officially approved by LEC. Use it at your own risk!

You do not have any right to put these missions on any compilation
CD-ROM unless you have my written permission first.

Since these are BETA missions all comments and suggestions are welcome.

- And now a sneak preview of "The Battle for Oslo Proximus", coming soon!

It was the golden age of starfighter combat! A time when a pilot
couldn't hide 2 klicks away and use concussion missiles, a time when
beam weapons existed only in the minds of scientists as a possibility
for a distant future. A time when proton torpedoes where rare weapons
used in major engagements only. A time when the fight was up-close
and personnal. It was the golden age of starfighter combat!

The time is shortly after the battle of Turkana, the place is Oslo
Proximus.

The Oslo Proximus sector, a small, isolated and apparently worthless
sector in the Outer Rim. Never a concern for both the Rebel
Alliance and the Empire, the inhabitants of this sector have known
peace for decades. But all of this is about to change. Syx-it
prospection, a company conducting research on ore resources, has
found an impressive amount of fuel ore on Oslo Proximus III. As
the news spread across the galaxy, Imperials and Rebels alike
discover a new-found interest in securing this sector.

Enlist under Commander Deskan and his Dreadnaught Sobibor for the
glory and might of the Empire, or fight for liberty under Lieutenant
Commander Norgul'ki and his freedom fighter squadron.

Either way prepare to engage in a struggle for power, a battle for
resources, a quest for glory! Welcome to Oslo-Proximus!

- Also coming soon from Alex Butts and myself: Goroth: Slaves of the Empire
